California professional-practice support

California Billing and Credentialing Support

Adding a clinician or service location in California can raise several different questions: which Medi-Cal enrollment route applies, which health plan and product are involved, and which practice relationship the billing records need to reflect. Konnext helps organize the agreed administrative work and connect each question to the responsible practice, program or plan contact.

  • Provider type and enrollment route identified
  • County, plan and product kept together
  • Practice relationships checked before handoff

Begin with the California practice question

Support is defined around your professional practice, providers, locations and agreed administrative tasks. Identify the existing records and authorized practice reviewer before choosing an application or follow-up route. This page does not establish a California office, a facility-billing engagement or a particular payer relationship for Konnext.

Different questions require different evidence

Match the enrollment route to the plan and practice relationship

A state enrollment record, health plan participation response and provider-to-group relationship should each be reviewed for the question they answer. Keep the service location and intended product visible throughout the handoff. Ask the selected plan which contact handles participation or any medical-group coordination rather than assuming one submitted application settles every billing detail.

Provider type and task

What to distinguish
Is this a new application, an existing-record change or a continued-enrollment request?
Evidence or next action
Identify the provider type, current record and applicable DHCS or other responsible enrollment channel.

State enrollment channel

What to distinguish
Does the provider type use PAVE or another route?
Evidence or next action
Use DHCS enrollment options before choosing instructions; retain any response or request for information.

County and Medi-Cal plan

What to distinguish
Which county and managed care plan are relevant?
Evidence or next action
Check the current county-specific DHCS resource and confirm the practice question with the selected plan.

Commercial product and network

What to distinguish
Which named product, plan year and service area apply?
Evidence or next action
Keep commercial participation evidence separate from a shared brand’s Medi-Cal or other products.

Clinician and group relationship

What to distinguish
Do the available records describe the intended practice and billing relationship?
Evidence or next action
Identify the clinician, group and service location involved; route unresolved agreement or record questions to an authorized reviewer.

Billing task and responsibility

What to distinguish
What work is permitted and who owns the unresolved item?
Evidence or next action
Confirm the agreed scope, applicable enrollment or transaction arrangements, authorized access and next responsible contact.

Administrative support

Connect the relevant California administrative tasks

Use the practice’s actual question to choose support. Enrollment, participation and billing can be coordinated while keeping the decisions and evidence for each task distinct.

Provider and group readiness

Organize agreed clinician, group and location information for applications or updates. Identify missing records and the practice reviewer without treating a submitted request as an approval.

Provider credentialing support

Medi-Cal enrollment coordination

Use current DHCS guidance to identify the enrollment route for the provider type and task. Keep a PAVE application or change request distinct from a health plan participation question.

Medicaid enrollment support

Plan and practice relationship review

Identify the selected plan product, participation contact and available group or contracting records. Coordinate open questions with the responsible plan, medical group or practice contact as applicable.

Group credentialing support

Professional billing handoffs

Define the agreed claim preparation or payer follow-up task around the available records. Confirm authorized responsibilities and applicable arrangements before beginning transaction work.

Medical billing support

The practice retains responsibility for clinical records and required provider review or approval. Confirm applicable enrollment, transaction arrangements and authorized access for the proposed work before it begins. Public inquiries are for general business needs only; do not send patient or claim records, identification documents, tax or bank information, or access credentials.

Administrative handoffs

Give the California question a defined next step

These steps organize the support engagement. They are not a mandatory DHCS or payer sequence, a processing deadline or a promise of network entry.

  1. 01

Describe the provider and practice change

Identify the clinician, group, location and open question. Establish which records already exist and who can review them for the practice.

  2. 02

Identify the relevant program and plan channels

Check the provider-type enrollment route and the intended county, plan and product. Ask which contact handles the particular participation or record question.

  3. 03

    Compare the available responses

Keep enrollment status, participation evidence and the practice relationship separate. Record a missing response or unresolved item without treating the whole engagement as approved.

  4. 04

    Agree the responsible handoff

Assign the next agency, plan, medical-group or practice contact and the evidence needed. Confirm scope and authorized arrangements before any transaction-processing work.

California Medi-Cal plans and commercial product resources

Medi-Cal is the state program; county-specific managed care plan listings and commercial product resources serve different purposes. The examples below are nonexhaustive. A member plan listing does not establish a provider’s eligibility, participation or authority to bill.

Official California enrollment and plan resources

Start with provider type, then identify the relevant plan context

DHCS lists different enrollment routes by provider type. Its PAVE resource covers applications, changes and continued-enrollment or revalidation requests for applicable providers. The county health plan directory answers a different question: which Medi-Cal managed care plans are listed for that county. Use both resources for their specific purpose.

Official California enrollment and county-plan resources checked November 4, 2026. Confirm the current requirements for the provider type, task, county and program.

Illustrative administrative handoff

A new location with separate enrollment and plan questions

Illustrative record, not a client result: A California professional group is considering an additional service location. Available: existing clinician and group records plus the intended plan product. Open: whether an enrollment update applies, which county-plan resource is relevant, and whether the plan needs a separate location or group-record review. Owner: the authorized practice contact with agreed administrative support. Next action: identify the applicable channels, request the missing responses and confirm permitted responsibilities before closing the handoff.

California practice questions

California enrollment, county plans and practice responsibilities

What can Konnext help a California professional practice organize?

We can coordinate agreed provider-record, enrollment, plan participation and professional billing tasks around the practice’s actual question. Confirm providers, groups, locations, products, responsibilities and authorized access before work begins. Program and payer decisions remain with the responsible organizations.

Does every California provider use PAVE for every enrollment task?

No. DHCS lists PAVE and other enrollment routes by provider type. Start with the applicable enrollment options rather than assuming one portal covers every provider or service. PAVE supports applications, changes and continued-enrollment or revalidation requests for applicable providers.

Does a Medi-Cal enrollment record settle health plan participation?

Treat these as separate questions. Identify the state enrollment task and ask the selected plan for its participation requirements and response. For example, Central California Alliance for Health describes both DHCS enrollment and its own network-joining requirements; its instructions do not establish another plan’s decision or a practice’s participation.

Why do the county and exact plan product matter?

DHCS provides county-specific Medi-Cal plan resources. Commercial products have their own plan-year, service-area and network context. Keep the county, program and named product with the participation question instead of treating all products under a shared brand as interchangeable.

Does the California ABA case guarantee the same result for another group?

No. The linked case concerns one engagement and retains its own scope and disclosures. It is a reason to check the intended provider-to-group relationship, not a promise of a contract, processing date, payment outcome or resolution of tax questions for another practice.

What should I share through the public inquiry?

Describe the general practice need, locations and whether the question concerns enrollment, plan participation or billing coordination. Do not send patient or claim records, identification documents, tax or bank information, passwords or access credentials. Agree a suitable authorized records handoff separately.

What should a California proposal clarify?

Identify the providers, groups, locations, intended programs and plan products, agreed administrative tasks, practice-supplied records and approvals, authorized access, applicable operational prerequisites, exclusions and separate costs. No enrollment, network access, decision date or payment result is guaranteed.
